Britain has already given a thumb's up for Bulgaria's admission to the European Union at 2007, and there is another great step forward with Bulgarian MPs from all political parties voting for the amendments in the Bulgarian Constitution in connection to land sales, bringing into compliance with the EU legislation. Foreigners who are not permenant residents of Bulgaria, will be able to purchase land after 7-year transition period.

BBC News reported on the 16th February 2005 that last year alone, 10,000 British people bought properties in Bulgaria. The boast is that the country's Black Sea Coast is fast becoming the next Costa del Sol. And with the prospect of EU membership in just two years, many hope to be making a good profit. Work on HHB developments came to a standstill during freak weather conditions.

Early February, Bulgarian authorities declared a state of emergency for the eastern regions of the country, and life in the Black Sea city of Varna came to a standstill due to heavy snow over a three day period.

Roads in the city of 250,000 and nearby villages were closed, as was the port and international airport. Snowdrifts of up to about six feet trapped some 100 vehicles on a road west of Varna.
